Wedding At Shrang-La The Shard

Wedding at Shangri-La, The Shard

Hmmm, where to start with Laurren & Thomas’ beautifully intimate wedding reception at The Shangri-La? For those unfamiliar (and that included me until very recently), The Shangri-La is situated on the 34th floor of The Shard in London. A vertiginous building so synonymous with London that surely everyone across the globe now knows it’s name. They definitely know what it looks like. However, before I get ahead of myself, let’s start at the beginning. Isn’t that where all good stories begin?!!

First up, what a honour it was as a wedding photographer London to photograph the stunningly intimate ceremony at Marylebone Register Office. On the first floor of this beautiful building, Laurren and Thomas officially tied the knot in the Pimlico Room. I just love the panelled walls in here and the fireplace is to die for.

After the confetti we captured some magic on the steps. It’s hard to believe looking at these photos that we were in London. The photos with those huge white sweeping columns could easily have been taken in Rome or Paris ….but instead here we were in overcast Marylebone.

Mayfair photos

Then we hot footed back to Mayfair for champagne on the roof of The Athenaeum Hotel, where Laurren and Thomas were staying in the honeymoon suite.

The views up here were breathtaking. We then jumped back into the car and headed to Thomas’ favourite wine merchants, Berry Brothers & Rudd for some intimate couples shots in the alleyway. This sounds suspect, taking photos in an alleyway but believe me, it’s so photogenic there!

The Shard Wedding Photos

From Mayfair, we zoomed to London Bridge Street for the reception at the Shangri-La. Believe it or not, this was only the second time I’d been to The Shard. Sam and I ate here a few years ago at The Aqua Shard…oh hang on a minute, I have just remembered we were invited to a party at Sky Lounge…so technically this is my third visit!! Anyhow, talk about views. I thought the views were pretty good at The Athenaeum but they are nothing compared to the vista up here. Mind blowing. Anyhow, before I knew where we were, and the reception was over, the speeches were behind us and we were back in a London black cab, bound for the West End.

The Ritz

We abandoned the taxi in Mayfair and strolled along Picadilly to The Ritz. The idea being that whoever had the energy could soak up some incredible cocktails in some pretty amazing surrounding, and eat some more amazing food. It was also a chance for me to capture some more delicious photography. And just like that, my day had just started and it was over. Thirteen hours had evaporated before my eyes and I was back on the tube, heading home to Southfields. What an epic day.
