Back Garden Wedding London
Covid has been a real headache for gazillions of couples across the world. Multiple lockdowns and a horrible virus that simply refused to go away meant that Governments were constantly having to move the goalposts. People were being hospitalised in their hundreds of thousands and sadly too many died. It was a shock to us all.
It was terrible. The pandemic wrought havoc on economies and industries of all shapes and sizes though it had a dramatic effect on the wedding industry globally. Here in the UK, so many businesses went under as a result. I heard of photographers, videographers, florists, DJ’s and hair & make up artists closing their businesses down due to restrictions. Catering companies went under. The venues were also struggling as well. Of course they were. This pandemic was horrific and the Covid rule on weddings in England were harsh. Weddings just weren’t happening in the same way that they were pre-Coronavirus. Initially weddings were restricted to four people. So essentially it was bride and groom plus two witnesses. Then the numbers were increased to 15 people and then 30.
Helen and Niall were amongst a tonne of my couples who had been messed around by all the changing rules. I have lost track of the number of times their wedding was rescheduled. Was it three times? Possibly four? Or maybe five! I kid you not, I can’t actually remember…. but what I do know is that their original plans had included a big show boat wedding at Hedsor House.
Backyard Wedding Ideas
That big wedding went out the window and in came a micro-wedding format…. a reduced guest list and a beautiful backyard wedding at Helen’s parents home. As much as I adore Hedsor House, there’s something just so nice about a back garden wedding. It feels homely. It feels more intimate. And you know what? For Helen & Niall, it felt so right for them. They’re not showy people and they admitted to me they were slightly terrified about being the centre of attention with 100+ wedding guests. So, this just felt like a good fit all around.
I really loved everything about Helen & Niall’s wedding. Everything. It was small and personal and bang on brand for them and I felt so grateful that they stuck by me. It was a pleasure to photograph and I hope you guys like the pictures as much as do 😊 .
Oh and before I go, I wanted to share Helen & Niall’s beautiful second reading in church, from Kahlil Gibran, which completely floored me. It’s called ‘On Marriage’.
