Stunning Clandon Park wedding of the adorable Alexe & Urs. Alexe looked incredible in her Suzanne Neville wedding dress with Alexe’s Grandmother’s vintage Cartier diamond broach firmly attached to the dress for safekeeping! Urs looked pretty dashing too I might add, and I was very impressed to see some of his fellow countrymen and women turn up in traditional German costume, including the customary Lederhosen. It was a perfect day and we were even blessed with a predominantly dry day which made a change after three wet weddings in a row! Absolutely exquisite six course menu from Clandon Park in house catering, stunning wedding flowers from Kimberley Shaw, beautiful wedding hair and make up from the uber talented Melissa Oldridge and the best close magic work I have ever seen from Mark Williams. I had been keeping an eye on the weather forecast all week and after last weekends wedding wash out, I was hoping for kinder conditions. Sadly I wasn’t given it. Well, it started out promising enough. It was dry’ish, with just the odd spot of rain here and there, though the clouds looked big and heavy. After the service, we had just enough time for a handful of group shots outside the church before we had to abandon them midway through and make our way to the reception venue, Ridings Barn, a fabulous space located within the beautiful grounds of Theobalds Park. If only we could have made more use of those luscious grounds! The bride and groom, Victoria & Terry were fantastic sports and did brave the wind and the rain for some wedding photographs under an umbrella and I am so glad that we did, because the results were fantastic, especially given the conditions! It was a sensational day, regardless of the weather, and everyone had a fabulous time in the evening courtesy of the very brilliant wedding band, The Hares, which I can highly recommend.One last thing before I sign off, I was particularly taken with the sweet shop that Victoria & Terry had set up at one end of the barn. It’s a good job that I was busy taking photographs, because if I were a guest, I would have ended up slowly eating my way through the lot….flying saucers, milk teeth, bon bons, Love Hearts….. Hmmm, my idea of confectionery heaven!!!!

I had been looking forward to shooting the wedding photography at Sudeley Castle for Natalie & Richard for longer than I care to remember. I was ridicuously excited about this wedding and having looked at some wedding photographs of Sudeley Castle online, I could hardly contain myself. It’s hardly surprising that Liz Hurley chose to tie the knot here. This Cotwolds wedding venue is tremendous!! Home of Lord and Lady Ashcombe and steeped in history going back centuries including the venerable Dent Brocklehurst Family, Sudeley Castle was recently described as being ‘the most romantic Castle in England’…..and the venue was also voted Wedding Venue of the Year!!! No mean feat with stiff competition around these days. No wonder that newlyweds are queuing up in their droves to marry here. This is a truly unique setting within the very heart of The Cotwolds with breathtaking views across Gloucestershire and set in 1200 glorious acres with the most stunning, award winning gardens too.

So with a perfect wedding venue, what could possibly go wrong for Natalie & Richard? Everything was simply divine with one exception. The weather. It had been raining in London everyday for weeks and the forecast didn’t look promising. And for once The Met Office got it right. The rain in biblical proportions, but then suddenly it stopped, and the sun made an appearance. Hoorah. Then huge, over sized black rain clouds appeared from nowhere. More rain, of the dense, heavy variety! The rain stopped. The sun appeared. Loads of it. Fantastic. Everyone cheered. Perhaps we will have great weather after all. Oh dear, huge swathes of black cumulus nimbus began blowing in again. More heavy rain. And so the cycle continued pretty much continuously all day. In the end I lost count of the number of times we were dumped on. I’m pretty sure it reached double figures. In fact, whilst we were out taking photographs of Natalie & Richard in the grounds, from nowhere it started raining and then the rain turned to hailstones. It was bizarre weather. And yet did the inclement weather ruin Natalie & Richard’s wedding day? Not a chance! Huge white umbrellas were plentiful wherever we walked at Sudeley Castle and not one single persons spirits were dampened (!!) by the weather. Everyone had a magnificent day. Fantastic speeches from Natalie’s father, chief bridesmaid Vicki Cox, best men Andy Macnab and Adam Skerry and finishing up with a heart wrenching speech from groom Richard which ensured that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!! A truly spellbinding day. And before I go, I must just say a huge thank you to Debbie Hilyard, Sam and all the staff at Sudeley Castle who put on a great show and also a massive thank you to Matthew Brown and his team who bent over backwards to supply the most extraordinary food and drink service all day and night. Oh and one final word about the flowers. I can’t remember seeing such a gorgeous display of flowers, EVER. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The work that must have gone into those displays defies belief. And the dusky roses within Natalie’s bridal bouquet were I think the best I have ever seen. Believe me, my photographs do not do the floristry justice.
